What does 2021 mean for estate planning?

ills What a year 2020 was. Lots of challenges and hurdles and unprecedented events too. It looks very much like 2021 will be filled with further challenges. For many of us the first challenge will be managing childcare and juggling work at the same time.

When it comes to what this means for estate planning we can see in the news lots of cases where loved ones are passing away from the terrible virus and close family aren’t always able to be there. This must be incredibly hard and made worse in cases where it was completely unexpected.

Lots of our newest clients have come to us because of their concerns over the virus. Many have been meaning to put plans in place and these last 12 months have given them a kick up the bum to sort out their affairs.

What does the term ‘sort our your affairs mean’?

Typically, it means to write your Will as a minimum. At SLS we will never pressure clients into taking services they don’t need, nor will we push services that the client’s are not sure on. What we will do is listen to the clients circumstances and advise on what we believe would be the best advice under the circumstances.

If you wanted to have a full estate plan, here are some of the things we may advise on:

  1. Wills
  2. Lasting Powers of Attorney
  3. Trusts
  4. Funeral Plans
  5. Storage

We all understand the importance of Wills but Lasting Powers of Attorney would be the document/s that we would advise is key for 2021. Check out our LPA page for more information.

The last 12 months have changed the way see clients in some respects. We now offer video appointments to all of our clients. Naturally some clients feel more comfortable with a face to face appointment in which case we will visit them in their home.

During the appointments we will wear a face covering and where necessary we will have gloves on. We will maintain a safe distance but will still require to see I.D etc.

We do all we can to keep you (and ourselves) safe but can still provide you with an affordable legal service and a time to suit you.

If you have any questions, please let us know. We will do all we can to help.
