Complex Wills, carefully drafted.
For estates that need more than a standard template can offer.
Complex Wills involve trusts, multiple beneficiaries, business interests, Inheritance Tax planning, or unusual circumstances. They take more time and more thought, and they are quoted individually.
Common reasons for a Complex Will.
Trusts within the Will
Discretionary, life interest, vulnerable beneficiary or property protection trusts created by the Will.
Business or shareholding
Business assets sit alongside personal assets and need their own provisions.
Blended family
Provision for a current spouse and children from a previous relationship without disinheriting either.
Inheritance Tax planning
Will drafted to use available reliefs and exemptions and to interact with lifetime gifting.
International elements
Property abroad, beneficiaries in other jurisdictions, or 'scripts of will' for separate jurisdictions.
Vulnerable beneficiary
Provision for a beneficiary who needs ongoing support without affecting means-tested benefits.
Complex Wills are quoted individually. The quote reflects the work involved, including any drafting of trusts within the Will, and is given in writing before any work begins.
Common questions.
Typically four to eight weeks from first consultation to signed document, depending on what is involved. Complex Wills usually need more than one meeting, particularly where trusts or Inheritance Tax planning are part of the picture.
Yes. We work with our network of professional partners for international elements. Where appropriate, we use 'scripts of will' (separate Wills for assets in different jurisdictions).
What clients often need alongside this.
Trusts
Trusts can protect assets for vulnerable beneficiaries, ring-fence money for grandchildren, reduce IHT exposure or keep wealth in the family across generations.
