A referral partner for estate planning. Not a competitor for the rest of your client work.
We handle Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, trusts and probate. We do not advise on investments, pensions, mortgages or general legal matters. Where those come up, we refer back to the introducing firm.
The shape of a good referral relationship.
The professionals we work with most often are financial advisers, accountants, solicitors who do not maintain a Wills team in-house, mortgage advisers, and care professionals. The pattern is the same in each case: we add the estate planning piece without disturbing the rest of the relationship.
How we work with each profession.
Financial advisers
We work with financial advisers across England and Wales. We do Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, trusts and probate. We do not advise on investments, pensions or tax, so the rest of your client work stays with you.
Accountants
We work with accountants whose clients need Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney, trusts and probate. The tax advice stays with you, the drafting and process sit with us.
Solicitors
We work with solicitors whose firms do not retain a Wills department, or whose private client team is at capacity. Drafting and process to a standard your clients will recognise.
Mortgage advisers
Mortgage protection is only half of the picture. A Will and Lasting Powers of Attorney are the other half, and they are usually missing.
Care professionals
We work with care home managers, occupational therapists, social workers and home-care providers whose clients need Wills, LPAs or capacity assessments arranged.
For professionals, what gets asked most.
Do you charge referral fees?
We do not pay percentage commissions. Some referral arrangements are possible by agreement, particularly where the introducer has carried out preparatory work with the client.
Will you compete for our client's existing planning work?
No. We do estate planning. Where matters arise that need investment, tax, mortgage or legal advice beyond our scope, we refer back to the introducing firm, not out to a competitor.
How are introduced clients kept informed?
We confirm receipt of the introduction with the introducer, contact the client within one business day, and let the introducer know at the appropriate stages of the work, subject to the client's consent.
Are you regulated?
Yes. SLS is regulated by the Society of Will Writers. Sara Sheppard is a Trust and Estate Practitioner through STEP and a Fellow of the SWW.
