Letters of Administration
The court document equivalent to a Grant of Probate, issued where the deceased did not leave a Will.
Where there is no Will, the estate is administered under the rules of intestacy. The administrators apply to the Probate Registry for Letters of Administration, which give them the same authority as a Grant of Probate would give to executors.
Administrators are normally close relatives, in an order set by the rules. Like executors, they take on personal liability for the proper administration of the estate.
