Vulnerable Beneficiary Trust

A trust designed to support a beneficiary with a disability or vulnerability, often with tax advantages and without affecting means-tested benefits.

Where a beneficiary cannot manage their own affairs, an outright inheritance can do more harm than good (interfering with means-tested benefits, exposing the beneficiary to financial abuse, or simply giving them more than they can handle). A Vulnerable Beneficiary Trust holds assets for the beneficiary's benefit while allowing trustees to manage spending sensibly.

Specific tax-advantaged trusts are available for beneficiaries who meet HMRC's definition of 'disabled person'.
